It’s one of the most talked about courses of the past month and while I sit here on my Qatar Airways flight bound for Doha I start to watch Hayden Bowles course on the free WiFi called Hacking Shopify Dropshipping.
At $497 it’s not the cheapest course, but it’s far from the most expensive, the biggest talking point though is the 18 year old guru behind the camera, so without further ado here is my review on Hayden Bowles course.
Over on Youtube where most of these so called guru’s hangout, posting their free videos to drum up business for their paid courses, Hayden like’s to flaunt his wealth, engage in clickbait videos and share videos of his life.
Hacking Shopify Dropshipping Review
The course, like most of the most popular drop shipping courses is hosted on teachable platform, allowing anyone to pretty much start a course on pretty much anything for under a hundred bucks per month.
As a student using the platform it is great with high quality videos loading on both desktop and mobile fairly quickly and gaining instant access to your course upon payment via Paypal or Credit Card.
Course Sales Page
This is what we’re told about the course on the sales page:
“In this course you are going to be taken step-by-step through how to create your Shopify store from scratch, including all of the plugins, apps and resources you will need. From there I show you the exact blueprint to dominate Instagram influencer and leverage those to crush it will Facebook Ads.”
You will also be given access to a private mastermind group, as well as weekly LIVE webinars in a group setting.
The course offers a low 24 hour refund with 25% of the course watched. Like most of these ‘relatively new guru’s the refund policy clearly shows they are very confident in the course material or simply want to stop any refunds from coming through their account.
Stop Posting Shopify Screenshots
The first annoying thing about Hayden Bowles is his endless screenshots of Shopify dashboards on his sales page. I literally used up all my free WiFi waiting for these trashy screenshots to load.
Revenue means nada, nil, nothing without a breakdown of the costs to get there.
So please stop posting these screenshots to sell your course.
The Course Content
After logging into the members area you’ll notice the five modules you’re getting access too. It’s a fairly short course and by short I mean theres about 10-15 videos in each module and some videos are only a few minutes long.
- Module 1: Introduction
- Module 2: Fundamentals
- Module 3: Building Your Base
- Module 4: Instagram
- Module 5: Facebook.
Hayden does speak very well, he definitely sounds like he knows what he’s talking about.
Module 1: Introduction
Remember how I said it was a short course? Well this section includes two videos of approx, 2 minutes in length that explain how the course will run and don’t make the same mistakes as Hayden.
- You will have to invest money
- You will have to invest time
- You have to put in work.
Treat it like a real business! Well duh..
That wraps up module 1.
Module 2: Fundamentals
The first video here talks about what is drop shipping and chances are you already know that as you splashed out $497 on a drop shipping course. If you didn’t then you can watch 5 minutes of footage on this.
The next video focuses on creating a strategy and spends 12 minutes talking about choosing your own strategy for going forward. The next videos focus on niche research and spend all 7 minutes on how to pick a good niche and then 10 minutes on product selection. Lastly there is a video on finding suppliers with Aliexpress.
So this course like many others focuses on drop shipping from china using Aliexpress. If you’ve read my other posts over the last few years you’ll know I prefer choosing a local supplier where delivery times are days.
Module 3: Building Your Base
Right now you’re over half way through the modules and you’ve enjoyed less than 47 minutes of content. If you feel like you’ve got your monies worth then wait for the next section where the return of the two or three minute videos makes it’s reappearance.
There’s really no point going into much detail here other than to say the videos all focus on Shopify and creating your web store from scratch. Starting from the beginning you’ll pick a Shopify plan using Hayden’s affiliate link, then go on to setup your store, customize everything and generally get things completed.
Things get slightly mis mashed here with him setting up Facebook and Instagram accounts, then going back to setup the store and configure apps and optimisation, then heading back to Facebook to create the pixel before returning to email marketing.
Module 4: Instagram
Next we head back to Instagram for an entire module dedicated to influencer marketing. I recall Hayden’s course actually being called, Hacking Influencer Marketing at some point and it clearly shows, there’s a lot of content.
The first few videos go over creating a plan or strategy and then types of offers to promote, finding influencers and how to make contact with them and negotiate a good price. There’s a video on how much you should pay followed by a multi step tutorial on setting up the perfect shoutout.
The final few videos include how to know whether your shoutout was a success and how to scale things up further, automating your Instagram setup and transitioning into Facebook.
The videos in this section are short but too the point. I’ll give credit where due and there’s no fluff here but still quite short with all videos coming to around 1 hour 20 minutes.
Module 5: Facebook
Okay the last module is with regards to Facebook and again has less than 40 minutes of content. I get it, you want value for money but I’m not sure you’re getting it for $497 but you’ll learn about the following in three videos:
- Setting up a strategy
- Types of campaigns
- Budget you should use.
You’ll then learn how to setup a campaign from scratch by creating the ad post and configuring the variables. You’ll then learn how to analyze the post and how to tell whether you should let it run or kill the ad.
You’ll go on to learn about testing new products, scaling your ads, creating look a like audiences, retargeting and then why most campaigns ultimately fail.
The course for me anyway suddenly ended at the end of the Facebook section. I was honestly a little baffled by the sudden closure to the course. There was no closing words by Hayden Bowles, nor any videos about new Facebook features, Instagram updates or ‘special bonuses.’ Maybe I was expecting too much?
Facebook Mastermind Group
I never join the mastermind groups of the courses I review as my FB feed always gets filled up with beginners asking why their stores aren’t making money and wannabe guru’s sharing their Shopify dashboards with absolutely no mention of the ad costs, product costs, refund rate or other running costs. I can do that too, but it means nothing if I’m losing money.
Money Back Guarantee
This course only offers a 24 hour money back guarantee (less than 25% of the course) which usually means one of two things. The course creator isn’t confident in his course and wants to stop people requesting refunds quickly or he’s so confident in the material and simply wants to cash out his money and spend it within a week.
Either way, if you do want a refund then you need to contact their support department to arrange.
Is Hacking Shopify Dropshipping A Scam?
It’s definitely not a scam or fraud and you do get access a fair few videos. Personally the price is rather high given the content you actually get compared with similar courses on the market. The course content is no where near in line with the price point of $497. Most of the videos are available in free alternatives on Youtube.
